  • The need for this booklet was identified during a meeting between AIG and its Religious Community clients. It specifically provides information to Sisters living with dementia symptoms, from the perspective of both a patient and a caregiver. It offers further understanding of the identification and treatment of the most worrisome aspects of aging, cognitive decline, and dementia. It is purposefully written in the new abbreviated “high content/low text” style to provide maximum information in minimum reading time.

This booklet is divided into three sections.

    1. Ideas to Motivate Sisters to Prevent or Postpone Dementia: This section provides a brief look at how we might leverage lifestyle and religious practices to build resilience against dementia and maintain an aging Sister’s independence in living.

    2. Decision-Making Guide for Skilled Care Transition: This section addresses one of the hardest decisions in dementia care: when should the Sister with dementia be relocated to best accommodate her and her Sisters’ well-being.

    3. Accompanying Sisters Through Cognitive Decline with Life Story Tools: This section introduces a practical, five step approach for accompanying a Sister through cognitive decline using a life story–based method.
